While condoling and sharing the pain and grief of the bereaved families of Churachandpur district who met fatal ends and suffered injuries during the mass protest against the three Bills passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31, the Senapati ADC has urged the Governor of Manipur to institute a judicial enquiry so as to unearth the truth of the episode and punish the culprits promptly.
A memorandum signed by Senapati ADC Chairman ML Markson and submitted to the Governor asserted that a separate administration or a full autonomy for the hill tribes of Manipur is the only feasible option to remove disparities between the valley and the hills, and ensure protection of tribal land and their rights.
The demand of the Meitei for Scheduled Tribe status is nothing short of infringement over the security and rights of the under privileged hill people.
Comparing the present living standard of the hill tribal and the valley Meitei (general), the latter is well advanced in all spheres of life, it claimed.
Maintaining that the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 are anti-tribal and lopsided, the Senapati ADC urged the Governor not to give assent to its enactment.
