State celebrates National Tourism Day

As in other parts of the country, National Tourism Day was celebrated by the Tourism Department at Ibudhou Marjing Polo Complex, Heingang Ching on Tuesday.
Presided over by Tourism director W Ibohal, the event was attended by Commissioner (tourism) PK Jha as chief guest.
In his speech, PK Jha said that compared to other states of India, Manipur has its own various unique tourist spots.
The spots attract tourists not only from other states but also from abroad.
As such, the state government has been paying extra attention to the promotion of tourism sector, he stated and urged the people to focus on this sector as well so as to help bring huge changes in the economy of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Tourism director W Ibohal said that a tourist spot cannot be developed with money alone but it has to take into consideration how to best utilise the natural ecosystem without affecting the environment.
As the number of tourists visiting the state is increasing, it is important to increase the number of home stays, apart from rectifying the habit of dumping garbage in the tourist spots or on the roadside, he conveyed.
Ibohal then said that the Marjing Polo Complex was selected as Tuesday's venue as it has tourism prospect and becoming quite a popular tourism destination due to the efforts of the department.
Explaining about the tourism project being taken up at the complex, he said that Marjing Polo Complex has already been completed, while construction of a Statue is ongoing and is expected to be completed by mid-2022 .
Stating that the theme for this year's celebration is 'Rural and Community Centric Tourism', the director elaborated that promotion of tourism will be difficult without promoting rural and community centric tourism.
In today's world, the trend is shifting towards rural tourism as tourists are looking more towards experiencing stays in rural homes, interaction with the people, etc.
It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Tourism is observing National Tourism Day as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav under the theme of 'Rural and Community Centric Tourism' .
