Imphal, January 25 2022:
Three days after announcement of candidates for 40 assembly constituencies in connection with the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary Punamrani Wangkhem and secretary Kh Binarani have declared their decision to resign from Congress party.
The two were in the race for party ticket for the 2022 election.
Punamrani was preparing to contest from Kshetrigao assembly constituency while Binarani from Konthoujam assembly constituency.
However, they were denied party tickets.
Announcing their decision during a press meet held at her Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai residence on Tuesday evening, Punamrani said that they were the only two women from the party who are in race for the party ticket.
The party has always been giving ticket to Meetei-Pangal candidate in Kshetrigao assembly constituency, which has people belonging to different communities.
No intending candidate from the Meetei community had allotted party ticket in the constituency till date.
It would not be wrong to call Congress party as a biased political party, she said.
Binarani said that the tall claim of supporting women's reservation is just a false claim made by Congress as the party has denied ticket to them.
They have no reason to remain in the party, which does not support or believe in them, she said and added that Konthoujam Block Congress Committee has been dissolved effective immediately.
She further said that they will send their resignation letters to AICC president Sonia Gandhi and also to AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das, CLP leader Okram Ibobi and MPCC president N Loken.
Meanwhile, sources said that the duo would be joining National People's Party soon.
