Imphal, January 25 2022:
Children Home, Blind School, Deaf & Mute School, Observation Home, Mental Home and Old Age Home operating under state social welfare department in Imphal East and Imphal West districts have been provided items donated by the department ahead of the 73rd Republic Day celebration.
After presenting the items on Tuesday, secretary to chief minister Geoffery Ningthoujam told media persons that the items were presented with the main objective of creating awareness about the fact that the Constitution guarantees equal rights to every citizen of the country and everyone should know the rights given by the Constitution.
Director (social welfare) Nangom Uttam also said that the department has been presenting sweets and edibles to children's homes and special schools every year on the eve of Republic Day.
The department presented edibles and other items for 850 inmates staying in 18 children's homes and other institutions operating in Imphal East and Imphal West districts on Tuesday as part of celebrating the 73rd Republic Day and such items will also be distributed by district level officers in other districts as well, he added.
Children's homes being opened in the state with funding from the Ministry need inspection as controlling mechanism of these homes is very weak due to direct funding from the ministry.
Nevertheless, the Ministry has now started inspection of these homes through a third party.
Those found running the homes smoothly will be encouraged while action would be initiated against those found unsatisfactory, Uttam said and appealed to those running the homes to utilise funds from the Ministry sincerely and judiciously.
