General strike called in GP areas

Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) has announced imposition of general strike in areas under the jurisdiction of all Gram Panchayats from 6 am of January 27 to 6 am of January 28 in protest against failure of the state government to release fund for GPs.
Announcing this during a press meet held at SIRD hall, DC office complex, Imphal East on Tuesday, MSPP president Abdul Latif said that the decision to call the general strike if the government fails to release the pending fund by January 25 was taken during a meeting held on January 20.As the government neither honoured the demand nor explained the reason thereof, they are going ahead with the January 20 decision of calling general strike.
As per the decision taken during the meeting, PRIs will also not participate in the Republic Day celebration and will carry out publicity campaign on Wednesday night to make the public aware about the reason behind calling the general strike and to seek their support, he informed.
After the general strike, PRIs will organise sit-in protest on January 29 and go to the national capital on January 31 to submit memorandums to the Prime Minister and the union minister concerned, he added.
