School, college observe National Voters' Day

Imphal, January 25 2022:
District Election Officer (DEO), Imphal West observed National Voters' Day under theme of "Electoral Literacy for stronger Democracy" at the auditorium of Heritage Convent, Uripok Bachaspati Leikai here on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the observance function, Chief Executive Officer Zilla Parishad Imphal West (MCS) Keisham Jadumani Singh pointed out that the day, signifying the establishment of the Election Commission of India (ECI), is observed with the aim of identifying and informing newly eligible voters of their rights and how to use this right to elect the most capable representative.
He then said that the ensuing assembly elections would be conducted with strict adherence to Covid-19 safety measures, in addition to providing alternative arrangements for Covid-positive people and voters with mobility issues.
The observance was also attended by Heritage Convent executive director Sanjenbam Vikramjit as president and ZEO Zone-I (MES) Sucheta Khumukcham as guest of honour.
The prizes of a quiz competition held on January 13 at Johnstone Higher Secondary School were also distributed at the occasion.
The first prize was awarded to Thamangjam Sachin Singh and Nadeem Yumkhaiba (Class XI-Arts) of Little Master English School, Samurou and second to Bhavna Sharma Gurumayum and Priyalaxmi Nongmaithem (Class XI-Science) of Heritage Convent, while Ayush Kumar Ashu (Class XI-Science) and Tajeswani Ningthoujam (Class XI-Arts) of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2 received the third prize.
The NSS and NCC units of United College, Chandel also observed 'National Voters Day' at the Science Block of the college on Tuesday.
As part of the observance, a quiz competition participated by four teams of students was conducted.
Tungdar Dangshawa Maring and Th Yearshim (Team B), RT Ruwngkhu and Th Yearshim (Team C) and PS Joysline and Peniwar Khumlo (Team A) secured first, second and third position respectively in the competition.
The event was attended by teaching staff and students of the college, a release said.
