CSOs mourn demise of Ima Sakhi

Various civil society bodies including All Manipur Muslim Development Committee (Lilong Ushoipokpi), ACOAM-Lup Kangleipak, United Committee Manipur (UCM), Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM), People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM), United People's Front (UPF) Manipur, Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meiralup (KANGLAMEI), Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup (THANIL) and National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) have condoled the demise of former AMKIL president Phanjoubam Sakhi Leima, popularly known as Ima Sakhi on January 23 .
In separate releases, the CSOs recalled that Ima Sakhi was at the forefront of various public movements including in 2000 when the territorial integrity of the state faced threat of disintegration due to the agreement signed between Government of India and NSCN-IM which extended the ceasefire without territorial limit; demand for removal of the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958 from the state; implementation of Inner Line Permit System, etc.
The releases further mentioned that the civil bodies held condolence meetings in their respective offices during which they observed silence in her memory and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace in its heavenly abode.
