Imphal, January 25 2022:
The Students' Wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) on Tuesday staged a protest at Mantripukhri Bazar against the petition filed in the Supreme Court by Amra Bangali on January 7 demanding removal of ILPS from the state.
During the protest, volunteers of the Wing attempted to burn the effigy of secretary of Amra Bangali, thereby leading to a stand-off with the police.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Wing convenor Haobijam Chalamba remarked that with the uninterrupted influx of outsiders into the state for a long time, the indigenous people of the state are today at the risk of being annihilated.
Amra Bangali's move of petitioning the Supreme Court against the implementation of ILPS in Manipur is not only in violation of the Constitution, but also challenging the people of Manipur publicly, he said.
Making it clear that the indigenous people of Manipur are the only ones to decide their own future; Chalamba mentioned CM Biren's affirmation that ILP cannot be revoked from the state by anyone.
Thus, it would be wise on the part of Amra Bangali to withdraw its PIL, he said, while urging the state government and the people to stand united against such tactics.
He then cautioned of launching further intense protests if Amra Bangali refuses to withdraw its petition.
