Imphal, April 10 2024:
INC candidate Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam visited Akasoi in Kumbi Assembly Constituency and paid respect to families of four persons who were killed by Kuki militants in January this year.
The four persons, Oinam Romen (45), Thoudam Ibomcha (53), Thoudam Anand (27) and Ahanthem Dara (55) were killed on January 10 at Mapalok Ching when they went to gather wood.
During the visits today, Dr Bimol touched the feet of Oinam ongbi Pramodini, the widow of Oinam Romen and said she is a true "patriot" .
After her husband was killed, Oinam ongbi Pramodini had cried inconsolably and urged people to let her be the last widow to suffer the brunt of losing a husband.
Dr Bimol said his visit today was not at all related to the ensuing Lok Sabha elections but a sincere and humane visit to show his respect to the widow and the bereaved families.
"Watching Pramodini wailing and praying to people to let her be the last widow of the conflict was painful.
At the same time, I felt proud of her bravery and love for the motherland.
"Instead of demanding revenge, she had urged people to let her be the last widow to suffer the loss.
Her appeal has lingered with me and it inspired me greatly to do something about the conflict and the suffering of the people," Dr Bimol said.
Notably, a few days ago, Dr Bimol had expressed his desire to meet Pramodini and pay his respect.
He had stated that Pramodini was brave and a true patriot.
Meeting the bereaved families today, Dr Bimol said "The State has plunged into a deep turmoil and is shattered.
I couldn't bear to hear the wails of the widows and those who have lost their loved ones.
I decided to face the elections to serve my motherland at my level best and heal it" .
Dr Bimol also met Thoudam Lembi, mother of Thoudam Ibomcha, who was killed along with his son, Thoudam Anand.
Extending condolences, Dr Bimol said he can never imagine the pain and suffering she has endured in losing her son and grandson.
He also shared the grief and pain of Th Sumila, widow of Th Ibomcha.
Dr Bimol also extended condolences and assured assistance to A Thoibi, Ahanthem Dara's widow.
