Imphal, April 10 2024:
With the first phase of the 18th Lok Sabha election due on April 19, Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Manipur on April 14 and address the people at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound on the same day.
Amit Shah, one of the star campaigners of the BJP for the 18th Lok Sabha elections, will canvas support for the BJP candidate in the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency Th Basanta Kumar and NDA ally NPF's candidate for the seat of Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency Kachui Timothy Zimik.
Confarming Amit Shah's visit to the state, a source in the BJP state unit informed that the party's star campaigner will visit the state on April 14 for a joint election campaign of the BJP and NPF.
BJP Manipur Pradesh had sought permission from the district magistrate of Imphal East for holding a mega election event at Hapta Kangjeibung on April 14 and received approval while preparation for the same has already started, the source informed.
Notably, Amit Shah last visited the state during the height of the violence on May 29 and stayed here for three days.
Apart from visiting many violence affected areas including Churachandpur and meeting civil society leaders and people, Amit Shah promised to end the violence within a short time.
His scheduled visit to the state on April 14 is after more than ten months.
On the other hand, there is no report of visit of star campaigners of INC and RP1 (Athawale) to the state despite both the national parties fielding candidates in the upcoming election.
Nevertheless, NPF leader and Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio had recently expressed his desire to visit Manipur and join the election campaign for Kachui Timothy Zimik.
Though gun-fight between the two warring communities had stopped ever since the announcement of 18th Lok Sabha election schedule, the conflict remains unresolved and accordingly political parties are yet to begin Campaigning for the upcoming election openly.
