NESU romp, USA & MPSC share spoils, FC Lamjao pip NACO in State League

NESU ran riot against Rahee UC against USA while MPSC shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller, and FC Lamjao edged past NACO 1-0 in the 16th Manipur State League on Wednesday.
Phijam Sanathoi Meetei scored a brace in NESU's 4-0 thrashing of Rahee FC in a Group B match played at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong.
NESU went on the offensive from the start, and they were rewarded after 19 minutes when Phijam Sanathoi capitalised on a well-timed pass to score.
After their breakthrough, NESU ramped up pressure on the opposition with a wave of attacks that earned them another goal in the 36th minute.
It was Sanathoi who collected his second goal to put his team 2-0 up.
NESU compounded Rahee UC's woes with a 45th-min-ute goal from Yumnam Monis Singh as they went into the second half taking a commanding 3-0 lead.
Then Ngathem Imarson Meitei made it 4-0 in the 48th minute to eventually close out the game.
The day's Group A match between USA and MPSC ended in a 3-3 stalemate at DSA Ground, Kakching.
USA started strongly as Ningthoijam Nepolian Singh put his side ahead seven minutes into the game.
However, MPSC made it all square in the 43rd minute via a penalty kick converted by Nongthombam Boyboysana.
USA reclaimed their lead in the second minute of first-half added time courtesy of Chaban Akash Singh, before they went further ahead in the 55th minute with Haobijam Tombi Singh on target.
MPSC fought back valiantly and put themselves back into the game inside 22 minutes, with Wakabam Bisheshwor scoring in their second goal in the 64th minute and Khem Bahadur BK equalling the score in the 77th minute for the eventual 3-3 result.
FC Lamjao, meanwhile, carved out a hard-fought 1-0 win over NACO in their Group B match at DSA, Kakching.
Laishram Kishan Singh gave FC Lamjao the lead just a minute from kickoff as his side clung on to seal the deal.
