Imphal, April 10 2024:
While alleging that the ruling BJP government is using money, muscle and media power to retain power, All India Trinamool Congress state convenor Dr Th Inaocha, also a member of INDIA Bloc Manipur, contended that in-spite of such machinations the saffron party's endeavour will remain a pipe dream this time around.
Along with expressing that decision to boycott visit of the Union home minister to Manipur adopted, Dr Inaocha told the media in a press briefing organised by INDIA Bloc at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, that the recent statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Manipur crisis could have destroyed the state if the centre had not intervened in time, is condemnable in the strongest terms.
Charging the BJP government of supplying arms to the Meeteis and the Kukis to kill each other, he said it is prerogative for the BJP government to put an end to the crisis in the state or escalate the same.
There is suspicion that the central government is aiming to exploit the mineral resources of the state by destroying Manipur through its divide and rule policy, he alleged.
Expressing confidence that the INDIA Bloc candidates will win the upcoming parliamentary elections by significant margins from their nearest rivals, the convenor maintained that one of the candidates for the elections in Manipur is not fielded by the Congress or the INDIA Bloc but chosen according to wish of the people.
He is well qualified, has enough knowledge of the history of Manipur and the Constitution of India, Dr Inaocha said with apparent, reference to Inner Manipur PC candidate prof Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, and reiterated that all efforts of the ruling BJP government to return to power will never fructify as the masses as now well aware of the anti-people policy of the present regime.
He also declared that INDIA Bloc will launch intense movement to neutralise authoritarian rule of the present government which gives free hand to the ruling party and its allies while suppressing the opposition.
With regard to reports about visit of Union Home Minister to Manipur for election campaign, he declared that decision to boycott his visit could be taken if necessary.
Chipping in, CPI (M) State secretary Ksh Shanta, who is also the convenor of INDIA Bloc Manipur, termed as unfortunate false propagandas being spread by the BJP in connection with the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The claim of BJP that the Congress did not take part in adopting resolution of implementing NRC in Manipur during the state assembly session on August 5, 2022 is false and baseless, he clarified.
Shanta also recounted that contrary to the Union Home Minister announcing on December 17 last year that NRC would be implemented in the state, the Prime Minister had on December 23, stated that the NRC will be implemented only in Assam.
Such contrasting statements have put the people in a state of confusion, he noted.
While maintaining that the state government had deliberately made the Prime Minister not to visit the state despite the humanitarian crisis gripping the state, Shanta said that the chief minister of Manipur neither want the PM to meet the people of Manipur and the state government is determined to end the crisis.
Expressing suspicion that the ruling government could have instigated the authority to prevent the meeting of INDIA Bloc candidate AK Bimol while there is no such restriction for the BJP candidate, he revealed that a complaint would be lodged in this regard to the ECI through the Manipur CEO.
