Meitei-Kuki violence incited by BJP : INDIA Bloc
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, April 10 2024: INDIA Bloc Manipur has asserted that the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023 can be traced to BJP's conspiracy of arming both Kukis and Meiteis, and inciting them to kill each other.

Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, All India Trinamool Congress State convenor Dr Thokchom Inaocha alleged that BJP conspired to let the Kukis and Meiteis kill each other by arming both the communities.

Now the guns have gone silent as if the violence is dictated by the BJP Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The guns may start booming again after the elections at the slight nod from the BJP Government, he said.

BJP has been scheming to create animosity among the different communities, and it is suspected that BJP has been plotting to disintegrate Manipur by employing 'divide and rule' policy, Inaocha said.

Calling upon all the people to teach BJP a befitting lesson in the ensuing Lok Sabha election, he said that INDIA Bloc Manipur is prepared to boycott Union Home Minister Amit Shah if he comes to Manipur for election campaign.

Fearing humiliating defeat in the ensuing election, BJP has been making all kinds of baseless charges against the common candidates fielded by INDIA Bloc Manipur, asserted the bloc's convenor and CPI(M) Manipur State Secretary Kshetrimayum Santa.

All the political parties including Congress took a unanimous decision in the State Assembly on August 5, 2022 in favour of implementing NRC in the State.

It is rather unfortunate that BJP has been projecting that the Congress party is opposed to NRC, Santa said.

BJP MLA RK Imo was charging that the Congress MLAs walked out of the State Assembly when a resolution was adopted on implementation of NRC in the last Assembly session as the party was opposed to NRC.

But the BJP MLA was wrong.

The Congress staged a walkout but it was in connection with a totally different issue, the INDIA Bloc Manipur convenor clarified.

There is a difference of opinion between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and this is creating confusion among the people, he said.

The BJP Government, at present, has been repeatedly violating the election model code of conduct.

Large groups of people are being called to the quarters and residences of BJP MLAs and Ministers, he said.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) Manipur president Toijam Devananda said that the Manipur crisis could have been brought to an end many months back had BJP desired it.

It is within BJP's power to either sustain the crisis or bring it to an end, he said.

He then appealed to all the people to vote for Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and send him to the Parliament.

Speaking at a function held at Congress Bhavan yesterday which marked the merger of JD (U) Tamenglong district office bearers and executive members with Congress party, MPCC president K Meghachandra asked if Prime Minister Narendra Modi's restoration of peace in Manipur meant the sharp polarisation between communities.

He asked the Prime Minister to stop pretending to have concerns for the people of Manipur.

If he genuinely cares for the people of Manipur, let him come to the State and campaign for the election, Meghachandra said.

The MPCC president also ridiculed Narendra Modi's claim that peace is returning to Manipur due to timely intervention by his Government.

Pointing out that Meitei people cannot travel to hill areas and Kuki people cannot come to Imphal and valley areas, Meghachandra asked if this was the peace implied by the Prime Minister.

Families who have lost their dear and near ones in the violence are still unable to overcome the sense of shock and sorrow.

Tens of thousands are still living a wretched life in relief camps after their homes were completely burnt down, he pointed out.

It would be outrageous if the Prime Minister is claiming that peace is returning to Manipur following intervention by the BJP Government when they (BJP leaders) did nothing to resolve the crisis all these months, he said.

He went on to ask how could the Prime Minister claim that peace has returned to Manipur when Kuki people cannot come to the valley and Meitei people cannot return to their homes at Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Moreh etc.

Decrying the allegation that it was the Congress party which circulated the video of two women parading naked on social media, the MPCC president urged the Prime Minister to bring out a detailed intelligence report of the particular incident.

CLP leader O Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam, deputy CLP leader K Ranjit and Congress party's chief whip Th Lokeshwar were also present at the function.
