Imphal, April 10 2024:
While informing that observance function of the Martyrs' Day will be held at Cheirao Ching, Thangmeiband, 13th April Observation Committee chairman Naorem Ibohalbi said that floral tributes will be paid as part of the commemorative event consequent to the court granting permission for the same.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, Ibohalbi urged the people to participate in the observance and also appealed to all concerned not to impose any bandh-blockade on the day.
Furthermore, the chairman urged the people to light candles at their residential gates in the evening.
Chipping in, advocate Okram Newtonkumar recounted that a case was filed in 2015, seeking permission to offer floral tributes to the nine martyrs at their memorial constructed atop Cheirao Ching.
However, the proceedings were temporarily halted in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In February this year, the petitioner sent a representation to the government seeking permission for the observance.
However, the government rejected the same and as such, the matter was apprised to the High Court of Manipur, which then granted permission for holding the observance on April 13 from 6am till 4pm, he informed.
