Arms dealer arrested at Ukhrul town

Ukhrul, April 10 2024:
A combined team of 35 Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) and Ukhrul police arrested a suspected arms dealer and seized Rs 13,11,130 in cash along with sophisticated arms and weapons from his rented house at Viewland Zone II, Ukhrul in the intervening night of April 9 and 10 .
The arrested person has been identified as Nganing-mi Vashum (42) of New Tusom village under Jessa-mi Block, Ukhrul District.
In this connection, Ukhrul police station OC Chuingam shared that joint troops of Assam Rifles and Ukhrul police conducted a search operation at around 12.30 pm and apprehended an individual suspected to be an active arms dealer operating in the district.

Acting swiftly, the security team cordoned off the area and apprehended Nganingmi Vashum with the aforementioned sum of cash and 9mm carbine with magazine (1), 9mm ball ammunition (37), pistol with magazine (1), Chinese hand grenade (1), 5.56 mm INSAS rounds (40), 0.22 ball ammunition (15), AK-47 rounds (1), 7.62 SLR fired cartridges (3), Assault Rifles sling (3), 12 Gauge Shotgun (1), shotgun rounds (110), shotgun fired cartridges (3), mobile phone (2) and a wallet.
The apprehended person was subsequently handed over to Ukhrul police station.
An FIR has been registered against him under section 400 of the IPC, section 25 (1-C) 27 Arms Act and section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act 1908 .
The accused has been remanded to 6 days police custody at Ukhrul police station for further investigation.
