Assam Rifles observes anti-drug day

In furtherance to vision "Drug Free India", IGAR (South) organised lec-ture-cum-awareness campaign in connection with the observance of "International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" at COBs/ TOBs with active involvement and dissemination of information to troopers and villagers in the area of responsibility.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the troopers along with local population were educated on ill-effects of drug abuse, cycle of supplies and aftermath of drugs on the life of individuals and advertent effects on the bodies and mind.
A total of five AR officers, 15 junior commission officers and 150 other ranks along with 150 locals attended the lecture cum awareness campaign at battalion headquarter and COBs/ TOBs.
Manipur has been fighting the menace of drugs for a very long time as such the state is being used as a conduit for transporting drugs from Myanmar to India's hinterland and valley, the PRO stated, adding that drug cartels have been exploiting the remoteness and poverty of locals especially people residing in border villages.
