Imphal, June 29 2023:
While terming union home minister Amit Shah's visit to the state as an inquiry of the number deaths or like offering condolences after the 'shradh' ritual is over; United People's Front (UPF) and National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) said that the home minister's reply to Chief Minister Biren that he (Shah) will look after the hills is basically a 'De Facto Separation of Administration', although formal order on the same has not been notified.
In a joint press meet at Manipur Press Club here Tuesday, NIPCO advisor Sunil Karam took serious note of the union home minister meeting the Naga, Meetei and Kuki leaders separately on ethnic lines.
He questioned the central government's hesitation in controlling the Kuki militants under SoO, who are killing civilians indiscriminately, while further raising suspicions if the central government wants to wipe out Manipur.
Sunil also contended that the unabated attacks on Meiteis by Kuki militants are fuelling the violence.
While there are 40,000 central forces deployed in the state, Manipur already had 35,000 state forces, all of which could be utilised by the government to control the violence.
However, since the central government is engrossed in its 'divide and rule' policy, the situation remains grim.
It would be best for the central and state governments to understand that any form of separate administration in Manipur would go on to burn even more fiercely, he warned.
