With situation taking a turn for the worse in the last couple of days with no let up in attacks and the rising body count and cases of arson, Chief Minister N Biren is likely to give in his paper tomorrow.
However there has been no official confirmation on this.
The Assembly is likely to be kept under animated suspension, said the source and added that a high level meeting under Home Ministry in the chair is in progress to discuss the unfolding situation in Manipur, at the time of filing this report.
On being contacted, a highly reliable source said that the New Delhi reportedly called up the Chief Minister a number of times today and reportedly raised very strong posers.
"I don't know the details of the phone calls, but the calls from Delhi seemed to be unusually hard," added the source, who did not want to be named.
Another source said that the Chief Minister was given the option of either putting in his paper or else the Centre would step in and take things over.
In line with this, the Chief Minister is likely to submit his resignation to the Governor tomorrow.
There is no however no official report on this either.
The present violence broke out on May 3 after the Tribal Solidarity March at Churachandpur after some Meitei houses were set on fire at Torbung, which is located about 10.5 kilometres from Churachandpur town.
About 130 people have been killed in the clash between the Meiteis and the Kukis and several houses have been razed to the ground.
Thousands are still taking shelter at different relief centres set up across the length and breadth of Manipur.
During his recent trip to New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had suggested that the Chief Minister take the responsibility of curtailing the violence in the valley area while Delhi would take the responsibility of reining in violence at the hills.
This is the second stint of N Biren as Chief Minister after the 2017 Assembly elections.
For the second time, the BJP came to power after the 2022 Assembly elections securing majority on its own.
