Protestors clash with SFs in Imphal

Many people paid tributes to Waikhom Nilachandra, who was killed in Thursday's gunfight at Senjam Chirang, at Khwairam-band Keithel while police resorted to firing tear gas shells and stun grenades as the number of mourners swelled in the heart of Imphal city.
After the body of Nilachandra alias Boyai, 40 of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai was retrieved from the area of gunfight, large number of people brought his body to Khwairamband Keithel and kept on the road intersecting two Khwairamband Keithel.
When women vendors and people started paying floral tributes to Nilachandra, more people showed up to pay homage and demanded that chief minister should come to pay homage or else the dead body will be brought to the CM's bungalow.
However, police fired tear gas canisters and stun grenades to disperse the people and shifted the body to JNIMS morgue.
Police action at Khwairamband Keithel triggered widespread protests in the periphery of Imphal city like Keishampat, Waheng-bam Leikai, Uripok, Nagamapal.
Large number of people coming from Tiddim road converged at Keishampat bridge.
However, large number of state force and Central forces deployed at the area fired several rounds of tear gas shells and stun grenades to disperse the people.
Till late Thursday evening, people burned tyres on the middle of Tiddim road while there were reports of clashes between protestors and security forces at several areas.
