Imphal, June 29 2023:
Taking strong exception to Chief Minister N Biren's failure to stop attacks by Kuki militants at Meitei villages at foothills and other peripheral areas, women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel have decided to shut down their business for five days and join the people's movement by halting the night at the market.
This was announced by the Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace, Imphal representative L Mema.
She said that all the efforts made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister N Biren after their meeting on June 25 to bring peace and normalcy in the State have yielded no results.
The Central Government is still unable to check the relentless aggression of Chin-Kuki militants and they are paying no heed to the people's repeated appeal to abrogate SoO with Kuki militants, Mema said.
It is the Kukis who have been attacking the Meiteis and there has not been a single incident till date where the Meiteis attacked first, she said.
She went on to ask "How could one remain silent when the innocent people are being attacked repeatedly and their houses burnt down without any provocation?" .
"We, mothers, don't want war.
We want peace.
Open the highways.
Open trade and commerce at Moreh.
Restore peace and normalcy", further said L Mema.
