CoTU condemns, raises allegations

Kangpokpi, June 29 2023:
Vehemently condemning the alleged attack on the Kuki-Zo villages, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi general secretary, Lamminlun Singsit said that sporadic incidents of attacking Kuki-Zo villages continue unabated till today.
He continued that this morning heavily armed miscreants attacked Haraothel and L Munlai villages near Leimakhong in Kangpokpi district.
He also condemned the torching of two houses at Mission Veng near Leimakhong.
Claiming that it is the Meitei who attacked Kuki-Zo village and the Kukis are defending themselves, the CoTU secretary alleged that all incidents are happening only in Kuki-Zo villages.
He then said that the Chief Minister and Governor of Manipur have claimed that peace has been restored in Manipur then why sporadic attacks and killings of Kukis-Zo continue unabated till today.
Drawing the attention of the Central Government, the CoTU secretary said that a separate administration for the Kuki-Zo is the only solution to end this ethnic violence.
According to a resident of Haraothel village, the armed rioters attacked with sophisticated weapons from the northern side of the village's jungle.
The armed rioters also attacked L Munlai village with similar sophisticated weapons, the residents said.
The firing periodically continued till 4 pm in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, armed miscreants also attacked volunteers in Thingsat Hill ranges at around 4 pm.
There was no report of any casualties and further details could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
