Thoubal, June 29 2023:
A sit-in protest demanding resignation of chief minister N Biren on the alleged ground of failure to safeguard life and properties of the people, was held at Heirok Part 2 Mayai Leikai community hall on Thursday.
The agitation jointly organised by Kanglei-pak Women's Welfare Association (KWWA) and Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi Lup under the aegis of COCOMI also demanded abrogation of SoO agreement with Kuki militants.
Speaking on the sidelines, Association member Gunamani Khundongbam expressed strong resentment that the government is unable to control the violent activities of the armed Kuki militants.
Since the government has failed to perform its responsibility, the chief minister should resign on moral ground, she said.
The protestors also observed a two minutes' silence as a mark of respect for those who died during the ethnic violence.
