Thoubal, June 29 2023:
Strongly condemning the statements made by one Glady Vaiphei from the Kuki community during a discussion programme on India Today on June 26, the Womens Wing of Meitei Communities Joint Coordination Committee has demanded a clarification from Glady within ten days.
It may be noted that the Women's Wing of Meitei Communities Joint Coordination Committee (a conglomerate of 18 clubs from Waithou to Haokha) staged a protest in this connection at Thoubal Kiyam Siphai Babu Bazar today.
On the aforementioned discussion programme, Glady Vaiphei had reportedly made disparaging remark against the meira paibis/Meitei women and undermined the historic nude protest staged in front of Kangla in 2004 .
Reacting against Glady's insulting remarks that paints the Meitei women and meira paibis in a degrading light, Pebam (Ongbi) Indrani, joint secretary, Women's Wing, MCJCC stated that Glady's denigrating statements are very unfortunate during such a vulnerable time when the two communities are at loggerheads.
Saying that Meitei women strongly condemn her remarks, Indrani recalled that Meitei 'Imas' (mothers) had staged the nude protest in the wake of Thangjam Manorama's killing demanding withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Kangla.
They carried out this historic protest for the greater good of the State and because of them Assam Rifles were shifted from Kangla, she added.
Indrani questioned Glady Vaiphei's knowledge of Manipur history for her to make light of such a historic protest.
Further, she asked how much does Glady really know about Meitei women to collectively besmirch their reputation so boldly.
Thus, the Women's Wing joint secretary demanded a clarification from Glady Vaiphei within ten days while cautioning that an FIR will be lodged against her and other actions taken up otherwise.
