Sit-in demands action over suicide of woman

Imphal, April 06 2024: The JAC formed against the alleged suicide of an unmarried woman organised a sit-in protest on Saturday in Imphal East district, demanding appropriate penal action against the victim's lover, whom they held responsible for the suicide.

According to JAC co-convenor Salam Chandani, the boyfriend of the victim, who is a resident of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, took advantage of the victim by making false promise of marrying her, just to dump her when their relationship was in advanced stage.

This led to the woman taking the extreme decision.

The authority should take up appropriate action against him and set an example so that others would think twice before committing such acts, she said.

She further said that the JAC will submit memorandum to the chief minister and the SP, Imphal West.

Mention may be made that the victim, who consumed poison, died after fighting for her life for five days at JNIMS.

Police had also arrested her boyfriend.
