KCP doffs hat to village volunteers
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, April 12 2024: The Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has paid its homage to village volunteers and cadres of different outfits who have died fighting for the cause of 'motherland' two days ahead of its 44th foundation day which falls on April 14 .

The outfit, in a press communique, also extended solidarity to all the people who have been displaced due to the crisis in Manipur.

While sharing its views on contemporary Manipur, the KCP said that Kangleipak (Manipur) used to be a sovereign Nation in Asia and has its own written history.

Manipur was earlier known as Meckley and its territory was much larger at that time, the outfit said and added that size of Manipur's territory kept on changing historically depending on the strength of the Kings.

The KCP went on to state that the territory of Manipur reached upto Assam in the north, China in the east, Bengal in the west and Burma in the east in the past.

Claiming that the territory of Manipur kept on shrinking over the course of time, the outfit maintained that Kabo Valley was leashed to Burma by the British after the signing of Treaty of Yandabo in 1826 and Manipur was given 500 Sicca Rupees a month as a compensation.

The seed of divide and rule policy in Manipur was sown by the British after the Anglo-Manipur War by separating the administration of hill and valley under Manipur State Durbar, the KCP claimed.

Claiming that the British started attacking the idea of Manipur too after the Anglo-Manipur War, the outfit added that the British left Manipur in 1947 and entrusted the erstwhile kingdom to Maharaj Bodhachandra.

The KCP said that a Legislative Assembly was elected in Manipur in 1948 by formulating a Manipur Constitution Act, 1947 and alleged that Manipur was forcefully merged with India without taking any consent from the Assembly (Manipur) .

It went to claim that Maharaj Bodhachandra was forced to sign the Merger Agreement in 1949 .

Claiming that the first Prime Minister Jawaharal Nehru and Prime Minister of Burma U Nu met in Imphal in 1953 and Manipur's territory shrank after the meeting, the KCP added that what agreement was reached during the high level meeting is still not known.

The size of Manipur has been reduced to just 22,327 sq km and it is what people of Manipur have fighting to protect, the KCP said and claimed that India has been employing the divide and rule policy to disintegrate Manipur.

Saying that the situation in contemporary Manipur is disheartening, the outfit alleged that the violent campaign of Kuki narco-terrorists against Meeteis is being orchestrated by the Indian Government.

Many have died in the course of the violence while several others are missing, the KCP reminded and continued that several houses and localities at Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Motbung etc have also been flattened or torched by the aggressors with no sign left of those places being Meetei settlement areas once.

The KCP alleged that the Kukis have completed its 'ethnic cleansing' of Meeteis.

Saying that those who fled persecution are still taking refuge at their relative's places or relief camps, the outfit alleged that the State Government has failed to protect the lives and properties of the people and the people have been left to defend for themselves.

It is the village volunteers who are at the forefront defending Meetei villages, the KCP alleged and claimed that the Indian military and paramilitary forces have been watching the conflict between Meeteis and Kukis as some sort of play.

Further claiming that Meeteis have been concentrated in the valley region by creating artificial buffer zones, the KCP alleged that Meeteis not being allowed to move beyond Phoubakchao Ikhai, Keithelmanbi, Kanglatongbi, Yaingangpokpi, Pallel and Serou is akin to keeping the Meeteis in a concentration camp.

The situation in Manipur is similar to that of proverbial "Sandrembi Imadi Ngaksham Youre," the KCP said.

Stating that the economy of Manipur has been affected in all sectors due to demonetisation, Covid pandemic and the ongoing crisis, the KCP asked how the economy of Manipur can be rebuilt and make up for all the loss.

The conflict is still not over as resettlement of thousands of families is still not completed, the KCP said and added that India will hold the Lok Sabha election in Manipur in two phases on April 19 and April 26 against the aspiration of the people who have refrained from holding all its major festivals like Ningol Chakkouba, Yaoshang, Gaan-Ngai, Christmas, Eid etc.

Saying that the Kuki narco-terrorists have stopped attacking Meeteis after the election notice was issued, the KCP wondered what the situation of Manipur will be after the election.

Can the Indian Government subdue the freedom struggles of the people of Manipur, it asked and urged the people of Manipur to know the hidden agenda of the Indian Government.

Stating that different communities working exclusively only for their people is detrimental to the unity of Manipur, the KCP alleged that the idea of Manipur has been shattered.

It is the Indian Government which encourages every community to have their agenda, the KCP claimed and asked the people to be aware of the harmful agenda of the Indian Government and promote harmonious existence of the different communities.
