Imphal, April 12 2024:
The Valley and Hill Labourers' Organisation (VHLO) has taken legal action by filing a petition at the High Court of Manipur against the Manipur Build ing and Other Construction.
Workers Welfare Board (MBOCWWB) to secure the legitimate rights of labourers.
During a press conference at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, VHLO convenor Maisnam Sakhi stated that MBOCWWB, operating under the labour department, is tasked with implementing welfare initiatives for labourers.
Sakhi highlighted that despite submitting a seven point memorandum to the Chief Minister on November 30, 2022, citing lack of response to a legal notice regarding cancellation of labourers' benefits for the period 2018-2020, there has been no response from authorities concerned, consequently compelling the organisation to take legal recourse by filing the petition.
Sakhi also condemned the threats issued by unknown miscreants to the office bearers of t he organisation and appealed not to repeat such acts.
Additionally, she urged the government authorities to uphold the rights of labourers and ensure safeguard of their welfare.
