Man escapes abduction bid, protest staged

Unknown miscreants reportedly abducted a 30-year-old man from Langathel under Khongjom police station, Thoubal district on Friday around 1.30 am.
Luckily, man escaped from the clutches of his abductors before anything unwanted happened.
The victim has been identified as Puyam Rajkanta, son of Puyam Ramsurat of Langathel Mayai Leikai.
Locals and Meira Paibi members organised a sit in protest at the village on Friday denouncing the incident and demanding clarification from the people or groups behind the abduction.
Langathel Apunba Meira Paibi Lup president Sagolsem Mande said that it is not the first attempt to abduct Rajkanta as on March 31 too, three unidentified people waylaid him in Wangjing Uningkhong area around 7 pm while he was on his way back from Thoubal and robbed him of cash.
They took and left him near Keirak buffalo farm after severely assaulting him.
Speaking about the Friday's incident, she informed that the abductors, who were hiding and Waiting, took him at gun point when Rajkanta came back from the toilet around 1.30 am.
He was taken towards Phundrei foothills but managed to escape from their custody as the abductors diverted their attention from him while talking over the phone, she added.
