Kakching, April 12 2024:
Meira paibi activists of Kakching Khunou on Wednesday staged protest demonstration against proposed withdrawal of BSF troopers deployed in the peripheral villages under Kakching district, and locked the gate of Kakching Khunou College at Umathel, where a company of 42 Bn BSF is stationed.
The protest was jointly organised by AIL Kakching Khunou Meifa Paibi Welfare Association and Monitoring Committee Kakching Khunou.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Association president Mayanglambam Ibechoubi pointed out that since areas under Kakching Khunou and Umathel were declared 'red-zone' owing to relentless attacks by Kuki militants, the BSF company had been safeguarding villagers of Kakching Khunou Lamkhai, Aihang and Umathel.
Stating that people of the area are against the withdrawal of the BSF personnel for deployment on 'election duty' in other parts of the country, she advised the government to ensure presence of the BSF personnel while cautioning that in case the BSF company is pulled out then the people will not allow deployment of any other central forces in the said areas.
