Imphal, April 12 2024:
If the double engine government of the BJP is as capable as it claims, then Union home minister Amit Shah, who would be arriving in the state on April 14 should announce the implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur, proposed Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPGC) work ing president Kh Devbrata.
Briefing the media at Congress Bhawan on Thursday, Devbrata contended that Amit Shah confirm implementation of NRC in Manipur during his visit to the state on April 14, just as was announced on December 9, 2019, to convince the people that the so-called double engine government of BJP could be relied upon and trusted to keep its words.
Recalling the union home minister's previous assurances to come to the state after 10 days at the height of the conflict, Devbrata remarked that as the union minister is finally coming to the state after 300 days, he should make the announcement in the interest of the people.
Expressing the belief and hope of the people and Congress that Amit Shah's visit would pave the path for resolution of the on going conflict, he said that during the 300 days Amit Shah stayed away from the state, many people have lost their lives.
The state's economy has been severely impacted and it would not be wrong to say the state is standing at the edge of the cliff.
It would be wrong of the union minister to think that the people do not care about his earlier assurances, especially when the people of the state held their breath and waited for the promised visit after 10 days, he added.
Devbrata then questioned the basis of the "timely intervention" remarks of PM Modi, suspecting that the claims must have been based on the reports submitted by the state government.
If such reports have indeed been submitted, it should be made public, as the people are confus.ed over the future of the state after the election, with regard to the conflict, said the working president, who also referred to the mass gatherings in front of the Chief Minister's office and residences of ruling MLAs as the parliamentary elections approach.
