RIMS inaugurates ophthalmology equipment

Imphal, April 12 2024:
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal inaugurated three machines namely Vitrectomy Machine, OCT Angioplex and Fundus Camera (FFA and ICG) on Friday at Department of Ophthalmology.
In a release, RIMS media advisor N Phillip Singh informed that the inaugural programme was attended by RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma in the presence of medical superintendent professor N Sanjib Singh and Department of Ophthalmology head professor Y Chingsuingamba Meitei.
Speaking on the inaugural function, the RIMS director expressed that the Vitrectomy Machine will provide maximum advantages in treat ment of retina and vitreous problems.
Since RIMS has the facility, maximum surgery for eye patients can be done as no fees will be charged from patients in availing the facility, he maintained, and expressed elation that in future patients wouldn't need treatment outside the state, adding to enhancing research activity for PG students.
Prof G Sunil Kumar further noted that RIMS is the first to install Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Angioplex in whole North East region at government hospital.
It is a non-invasive imaging technique based on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) developed to visualise vascular networks in the.human retina, choroid, skin and various animal models, he stated.
The director also mentioned that Fundus Camera (FFA AND ICG) is one of the best and latest Technologies in treatment of eye, while stressing the importance for diagnosing and treating various posterior segments and other ocular diseases.
The release also conveyed that professor N Sanjib appreciated everyone for working dedjcatedly, while adding that R1MS has started processing organ transplant within 1 or 2 weeks having contact with one of the biggest organ donation group.
The programme was attend ed by RJMS deputy director (administration) RK Mecolt Singh, CAO/FA Sairem Sarat Singh, HODs, faculty members, students and staff.
