AMUCO for firm action, accuses Centre of crippling state Govt

Imphal, June 29 2023: All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has expressed serious concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the state, attributing it to the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement and the activities of Kuki militants.

Apunba Thongam Leikai Lup, Singjamei under the aegis of AMUCO organised a public meeting on No Separate Administration in Manipur' at Singjamei Parking on Thursday, which was attended by representatives of different communities.

During the meeting, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang emphasised the need for the government to address the real issues and problems instead of merely aspiring for peace.

Nando raised questions about the Central govern ment's inaction towards the SoO and non-SoO militants, despite their random violation of the ground rules.

He accused the government of making hallow assurances, stating that such gestures do not alleviate the public's concerns during this critical situation.

He urged the state's security advisor to go beyond mere statements and take concrete action, as romised during a meeting eld on Wednesday.

Nando also called upon the deputy commissioners to expand their role beyond imposing curfews and providing relief materials in the relief camps.

According to Nando, there are substantial evidences of the Government of India's lack of sincerity in addressing the crisis in Manipur.

He accused the Central government of hampering the state government's ability to fulfil its duties and responsibilities.

Nando informed about a meeting between AMUCO and government officials on Wednesday, which was attended by the security advisor, chief secretary, director general of police (DGP), and senior officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) wherein officials presented a map de tailing security deployments and assured AMUCO that the government is effectively managing the law and order situation.

They also claimed to be closely monitoring the activities of SoO militant groups and pledged to take action against any violations of ground rules.

Challenging the government's stance, Nando questioned why no actions had been taken against the SoO militants in the past, despite reports of violation of ground rule.

He also inquired whether the army intelligence failed to provide any information on these violations and demanded an explanation for the lack of action.

Furthermore, Nando highlighted that despite the government's assurances, armed attacks by Kuki militants continue.

He expressed concern over the attacks on Meetei villages by Kuki militants, questioning why the heavy deployment of security forces had not been able to contain the violence.

Nando criticised the chief secretary, security advisor, DGP, and IB officers for providing false assurances to the public.

He highlighted that despite the government's promise to control the violence, fresh attacks on foothill villages had occurred even after the meeting.

He also questioned the competence and efficiency of the security officers, citing their lack of knowledge regarding Kuki bunkers with Indian national flag overlooking Meetei villages.

Nando demanded an end to the government 's false assurances and called for im mediate action.

He also voiced concerns over the current humanitarian crisis in the state, attributing it to the SoO and the activities of Kuki militants.

He called on the government to address the real issues at hand and take concrete actions to restore peace in the state.

He further criticised the government's failure to act against the militants and its practice of providing empty assurances.

He also expressed doubts regarding the government's sincerity and the effectiveness of security forces in dealing with the ongoing violence.
