NPP commits to resolving crisis in state

National People's Party (NPP) Manipur Unit on Friday observed the 76th birth anniversary of party leader and former Lok Sabha speaker (L) Pur no Agitok Sangma, at the Unit's office in Naoremthong.
The commemorative event was attended by NPP national vice president Yumnam Joykumar, state president and MLA N Kayisii; MLAs Khuraijam Loken, Sheikh Noorul Hassan, Irengbam Nalini, Janghemlung Panmei; party's senior leader Yungkham Erabot, ex-minister L Jayantakumar and other office bearers.
As part of the event, the gathering offered floral tributes to the portrait of PA Sangma.
Responding to queries from the media regarding the unrest situation in the state, Y Joykumar said that the party is taking up all measures to help solve the conflict as soon as possible and stressed the need to ensure a stable government in the state to aid in resolving the crisis, adding that the government alone cannot solve the same.
Stating that NPP was the first party to enquire the union home minister on what could be done to solve the conflict, he also recounted that the party met the minister during the latter's visit to Manipur.
The party MLAs are doing all they can to assist the displaced people, he said.
Regarding the recent session of the state Assembly, Joykumar opined that the prevailing conflict needs to be discussed in the detail in the House.
He speculated that the government may have some issues with regard to the session.
However, the state unit will contact the party 's national president to decide on the steps to be taken up, including whether the party would field a candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections or not.
NPP state president MLA N Kayisii recounted the contributions of party leader (Late) PA Sangma, while mentioning that party's presence in other north eastern states namely in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
Efforts are being made to ensure election of more party MLAs in the remaining states, he added.
