Senapati, September 01 2023:
Naga Peoples' Organisation (NPO), Senapati has welcomed the government's initiative to provide shelter to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the present unrest in the state.
However, NPO said that it opposes establishment of pre-fabricated houses in Naga areas, emphasising that any rehabilitation efforts by the state government should not give rise to further conflict and disputes among different communities in the state.
This stance was articulated in a press release issued by the publicity wing of the NPO on Friday.
The release acknowledged the government's efforts to alleviate the suffering of distressed people and restore normalcy in the state.
In recent months, the state has experienced significant turmoil, causing immense hardship to both the Meitei and Kuki communities.
It is heartening to witness a gradual return to normalcy, NPO noted, and stressed that all conscientious citizens should welcome and appreciate the steps taken by the state government.
However, NPO firmly believes that any rehabilitation efforts initiated by the state government should not become a source of conflict and dispute among different communities in the state.
Land and people are insep arable to the indigenous inhabitants of the state, it maintained.
"Nagas have resided in their ancestral land for generations, and they cannot afford to part with any portion of their ancestral land.
Any attempt to forcibly occupy Naga areas will be met with strong and effective opposition," the release asserted.
