Thoubal, September 01 2023:
Announcing September 3-21 as 'Black September', Phambei spokesperson Ningthouja Lancha appealed all to support the series of protests it will organise during the period.
Addressing a press meet at Heirok Part-II Umang Latkol on Friday, Lancha explained that the said days will be observed as 'Black September' as September 3 will mark four months since Kukis started the present conflict causing exodus of innocent Meitei people and the dissolving of Manipur's own Constitution formed in 1947 and Assembly on September 21, 1949 .
He urged all to pay floral tributes to martyrs of the ongoing conflict on September 3 and during the 'Black September' period hoist black flag at homes and schools along with opposing displacement of indigenous people from their own land.
Appealing to the public to join the phase wise protests, Lancha informed that they will also meet with various political as well as other CSOs leaders to work out a united stand for resolving the prevailing crisis.
He further exhorted everyone to unitedly oppose the silence of Union government and inability to fulfil the demands of the people and the harassment of innocent civilians by central security forces.
Lancha further maintained that the decision was taken after observing that the central government has done nothing concrete on ground to solve the issue, constant attacks by Kukis against Meeteis in various places which has made life very difficult for latter and the biased conduct of central forces during attack by Kukis.
The press conference was also attended by Phambei office bearers and villagers from Heirok and surrounding villages.
