Imphal, September 01 2023:
As the government has failed to follow and honour the Constitution of India, there is no reason for the public to abide with the rules of law framed by the state government, said Committee on Mass Protest Against Assam Rifles.
Addressing media persons at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai, Committee member Sharmila Naoshekpam condemned suppression of voice of the people vis-a-vis the crisis in the state, and said that the manner in which the state government abruptly ended the assembly session in just 12 minutes is clear indication of not honouring the Constitution of India.
Since the state government has failed to respect the Indian Constitution, women folk of Manipur have decided to launch people's disobedience movement from September 1, she said and specified that as part of the agitation, any kind of help or relief provided by the centre and central para military forces to the Meitei people and relief camps opened in the state will not be entertained/accepted.
In case of any unwanted incidents due to non-compliance with the resolution the consequences should be borne by individuals and relief camps concerned, she cautioned.
Sharmila also appealed to government employees not to attend offices/work as part of the movement.
Any untoward incident arising due to defiance of the committee's resolution will be their sole responsibility.
Government employees related with essential services including electricity, water supply, medical, finance, solid waste and media will be exempted from the purview of the disobedience movement, she added.
