Imphal, September 01 2023:
Advocate Soraisham Chittaranjan has clarified that he was approached by a senior Supreme Court advocate to assist in the case involving professor Kham Khan Suan Hausing but had withdrawn and no longer related with the case.
Clarifying on a viral video doing the round on social media stating that four Meetei individuals stood for a case involving a Kuki individual, Chittaranjan told media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday that his mentor and senior Supreme Court advocate Anand Grover went ahead with a legal battle involving professor Hausing without assessing merit of the case following a summon notice from the Supreme Court of India.
Apart from giving 15 days protection, the Supreme Court asked professor Hausing to seek legal help from the High Court of Manipur.
Unfortunately, Anand Grover requires assistance of one member of the Manipur High Court Bar Association to appear for case in the Manipur high court.
"Advocate Anand Grover has no familiarity with anyone in Manipur except me and my friend Victor and accordingly approached me to assist the case.
When told about the difficulty to stand for the case due to the present conflict, advocate Anand Grover insisted on doing only the filing and accordingly filed the case with all relevant documents prepared and arranged by himself," Chittaranjan said.
According to Chittaranjan, he applied for withdrawal from the case immediately after the high court took up the case as Item No 3 on August 31 and began hearing.
He also said that he is no longer related with the case as the court approved the withdrawal.
While assuring that he will never do anything against the interest of the Meetei community being member of the community, Chittaranjan said that he had no intention of reaping benefit from professor Kham Khan Suan Hausing.
He also expressed regret for hurting sentiment of the Meetei community and assured that such incidents will not recur in future.
