Imphal, September 01 2023:
In connection with a complaint case filed by one Ayekpam Keshorjit Singh, the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has directed SP Imphal West Dr S Ibomcha Singh and SDPO Singjamei police station L Santosh to appear before the commission on September 5 .
The complaint case pertains to construction of a road to Laishram Devan Leikai under PMGSY in 2017 in a very shoddy manner and subsequent investigation by police which made very little progress.
Whereas the length of the road approved in the DPR was 900 metres, only 876.3 metres was found constructed during a field inspection by the complainant.
Further another linkage road from 900 metres to 1500 metres which was clearly mentioned in the DPR was found to be non-existent.
Although an FIR was registered at Singjamei police station in connection with the matter in 2017, the IO of the case has neither completed the investigation nor submitted any chargesheet.
Taking strong exception to the undue delay in the investigation, the MHRC has asserted that it is time the authority concerned think on whether maintenance of law and order and investigation should be separated in the interest of the citizens.
The MHRC has listed the matter on September 5 .
