Food processing training for inmates concludes

The skill development training on food processing conducted by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) for inmates the relief camp opened at Ideal Girl's College, Akampat concluded on Friday.
The valedictory function was attended by agricultural minister Th Biswajit and Science and Technology commissioner M Yaiskul as presidium members.
The function also witnessed display of food items made by the inmates.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Biswajit informed that the food processing training has been conducted for the inmates in view of the need to make them earn decent income and become self-reliant to some extent.
The training will enable the inmates get acquainted with means of livelihood when they leave the relief camp and stay in their homes.
The minister also informed that the government is planning to market their prod ucts.
He also said that the government is planning to provide training for mobile repairing and other suitable trades to the youths staying in the relief camp as well as for exporting the products made by the inmates through quality maintenance.
The government will also facilitate visit to science related places for those inmates who are interested in getting into the field of science.
In his address, M Yaiskul stated that the department has completed two phases of training on food processing for women inmates of Ideal Girl's College during which 63 women received training.
The training was conducted with the support of the government of India, he said.
