Imphal, September 01 2023:
The Kripadashini Advanced Hospital & Research Institute has hailed the noble gesture of the family of Late Sarungbam Kennedy Singh to donate the deceased's bodily organs.
On July 31, Sarungbam Kennedy Singh (42), a former employee of The Sangai Express, was admitted to Kripadashini Advanced Hospital, Palace Compound after suffering bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness, said a statement issued by Shantikumar Sharma, Administrative Officer, Kripadashini Advanced Hospital & Research Institute.

After a detailed examination by the neuro surgery team of the hospital, Kennedy was confirmed to have hypoxic brain injury.
Despite receiving extensive medical care at the ICU of the hospital, Kennedy 's condition did not show any signs of improvement.
Once faced with the grim reality and the futility of the situation, Kenedy's wife Usharani Devi conveyed the desire to donate her husband's organs to ailing patients in need.
Thus, officials at Mohan Foundation (an NGO that promotes organ donation) were informed about the matter and their volunteers along with doctors from JNIMS arrived at the hospital.
They kept a close watch over Kennedy throughout the night in the ICU assisted by the ICU staff.
Professor Dr Sukham Thoibahenba Singh, JNIMS Anesthesiologist and a close relative of the family also rendered his services and support throughout the process.
According to Mohan Foundation volunteers and JNIMS doctors, the commonly donated organs are liver and kidney.
In cases when the brain has been irreparably damaged/injured but the other vital organs are in good shape, then the kidney and liver can be donated before the individual breathes his last, they said.
Sarungbam Kennedy passed away on August 2 and it is pertinent to note that his two kidneys were donated and transplanted to two patients who had terminal kidney disease.
The staff of Kripadashini Advanced Hospital & Research Institute have offered their respects to the deceased with the hope that his soul will rest in peace.
