CCpur, September 01 2023:
A sit-in protest against the policy for deployment of Meetei officers in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas was held in Moreh town on Friday.
The protest took place at Gaingam Lentoul in Tengnoupal district and saw the participation of over 4,000 people from the Kuki-Zo community.
The protest was organised under the banner of Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal district (KIT).
Kaikholal Haokip, spokesperson for KIT, stated that the Kuki-Zo community in Tengnoupal district would vehemently oppose any attempt to resettle Meeteis in Moreh town without a political solution.
Kaikholal emphasised that all Meetei individuals serving in security, police, and civil administration roles in Tengnoupal district should vacate the district at the earliest.
He further asserted that the indigenous Kuki-Zo community in Tengnoupal district would resist any attempt to resettle Meeteis in Moreh town and deployment of Meetei government officers in the district unless a political solution is reached with the central government.
Kaikholal said, "The plan for resettlement of Meeteis in Tengnoupal district and Moreh town and the deployment of Meetei government officers in the district is a concealed agenda of N Biren to subjugate and annihilate the indigenous Kuki-Zo community.
The Kuki-Zo community will vehemently oppose this nefarious and ill-intentioned plan of the Chief Minister with all our strength".
A political solution must be prioritised, and any resettlement of Meeteis should follow afterward, he added.
