Imphal, September 01 2023:
Appreciating the stand of Thadou Students' Association (TSA) favouring the proposed National Registrar of Citizens (NRC) exercise as mentioned in a press release, Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM) has stated that this is a welcoming sign that citizens of Manipur wish to contribute towards bringing about peace and establishing the fact legally.
In a release, ICHAM president Yuimi Horam and secretary DS Panmei conveyed that earlier, United Naga Council (UNC) too had sounded an endorsing message on the same.
The mindless ethnic strife that has gripped Manipur since May 3 has necessitated the state government to take up the step to conduct the NRC to not only identify its denizens but also to weed out the non-citizens.
Every right-thinking person would agree to the move and would be one vital element towards paving a way to rein in the violence and restore peace for all concerned, it observed.
"We look forward to the government machinery to efficiently and justly carry out the assignment," ICHAM conveyed and urged all concerned to co-operate and help expedite the exercise.
