Imphal, September 01 2023:
Thawai Mirel convener Th Dara has said that the organisation has strong suspicion of state government intentionally trying to suppress the protest being launched by the women wing of the organisation.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Dara said that the ongoing hunger strike launched by volunteers of women wing of the organisation in pursuance of the demand for unification of all the CSOs and taking an assembly resolution to save and protect Manipur will continue despite facing disturbances from different sides.
According to Th Dara, bodies of two village volunteers who died in gun-battle at Narensena on August 31 were brought at the site where women volunteers of the organisation are undertaking indefinite hunger strike.
While people were paying floral tributes and homage to the deceased volunteers, large numbers of police personnel dispersed the people by firing tear gas shells thereby causing suspicion if the police action was intended to sabotage the hunger strike launched by two women volunteers.
Dispersing people who were paying homage to Meetei volunteers killed by Kuki militants clearly shows that Manipur government does not honour those who lay down their lives for the cause of Manipur, Dara said.
