Four injured as gunfights rage

Two person each belonging to the warring Meetei and Kuki communities suffered bullet injuries as gunfight continue to rage in the fringe areas.
Of the four injured, two individuals were promptly transported to Churachandpur district hospital as heavy exchange of fire continued for the fourth day in the adjoining areas of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.
In the meantime, Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) carried out a blood donation drive for helping frontline volunteers, often referred to as village defence personnel, who have sustained bullet injuries.
The blood donation event took place at the district hospital's blood bank, starting from 10 am.
The first injured individual sustained a sniper bullet wound on his neck, while the second, who arrived at the hospital around 1:30 pm, had an injury on the chest.
Vid Lunmang Guite, a member of ZSF who participated in the blood donation camp, mentioned that approximately 100 young individuals donated blood on Friday.
He emphasised the significant need for such blood donations, as there is occasionally shortage of blood in the blood bank.
In Bishnupur district, a fierce gun battle broke out between Kuki militants, who used bombs against state forces, and village volunteers in areas under Phubala, Naransena and Ngangkhalawai on early Friday morning.
The gunfight led to in juries of two male village volunteers, with one the wounded hailing from Phubala getting hit on the thigh.
He was rushed to District hospital Bishnupur and later discharged as his condition was not serious.
The other injured is from Sunusiphai Maning and has been admitted in a hospital in Imphal for further treatment.
