Curtain raiser of Destroyer INS Imphal held

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced the construction of one each library for all recognised communities of the state soon as Christmas and New Year gifts to the people of the state.
The Chief Minister made the announcement while speaking as the chief guest at the Curtain Raiser event in connection with the commissioning of the Indian Navy's destroyer vessel - INS Imphal, scheduled on December 26, in front of Kangla Utra here on Friday.
INS Imphal is the third warship of the Vishakapatnam-class stealth guided missile destroyer of the Indian Navy.
The keel of INS Imphal was laid on May 19, 2017 and launched on April 20, 2019 at Mazagaon Dock Limited of Mumbai.
The ship was named in recognition of the Indian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Imphal during World War II .
It is the first Indian Navy ship named after the capital city of Manipur and first to be named from any city of Northeast India.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Biren expressed that the entire state should feel proud on the naming of the warship INS Imphal.
While reminding all concerned that Manipur has carved a niche on its own in the world, he said whatever recognition we are getting today is because of our forefathers' contributions and sacrifices.
He stressed that naming of the warship INS Imphal is a recognition and show of respect to Manipur's rich history and past glory, which the people of the state should also reciprocate.
Biren then conveyed appreciation to the central leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, defence minister Rajnath Singh and others by fulfilling our responsibilities towards building 'One Bharat Strong Bharat'.
The CM continued that politics is not just development of infrastructure, but also about rolling out policies which will deliver long term welfare to the communities and the state.
He further highlighted the renaming of Mount Harriet in Andaman and Nicobar Inlands as Mount Manipur, recognising the sacrifice of Rani Gaidinliu, setting up the country's only sports university in Manipur, latest nomination of sportspersons Naorem Roshibina Devi and Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu for Arjuna Award and extension of Inner Line Permit System to Manipur.
The chief minister, however, observed the people's cynicism and lack of gratitude in this regard.
Stating that peace is gradually returning to the state with the support of the masses, Biren wished the people Advanced Christmas and a happy New Year, He added that construction of the Hills Chiefs' Guest House will be inaugurated soon before the New Year and handed over to the people.
Additionally, the government has constructed museum for all the 33-34 communities of the state.
A library for each community will also be constructed at a cost of around Rs 30 lakh each, he conveyed.
Biren then appealed for concerted efforts in building a strong, powerful and peaceful India.
The ceremony was also attended by ministers, MLAs, security advisor Kuldiep Singh, chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, DGP Rajiv Singh, civil and police officials, distinguished personalities from diverse fields including artistes, members of expert committee for preparing the crest of INS Imphal, NCC cadets and students among others.
As part of the ceremony, a painting competition was also organised and a video on INS Imphal screened.
Meanwhile, the chief minister accompanied by some of his cabinet colleagues and officials also inspected the on going construction works of alternate housing at National Games Village.
