Licypriya honoured for global climate activism

Child environment and climate activist Licypriya Kangujam was honoured with the 'Millennial X Award 2023' in a ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday.
The award, presented by NewsX, India News, Sunday Guardian, and Business World, recognises Licypriya's exceptional courage and global contributions to the fight against the climate crisis.
Licypriya gained international attention for her impactful actions during the recently concluded United Nations Climate Conference 2023 (COP28) in Dubai.
Her protest on the closing day of COP28 played a pivotal role, leading world leaders and United Nations members to commit to ending the era of fossil fuels by 2050 and doubling efforts for renewable energies by 2030.The young activist's bravery in steering COP28 towards a successful outcome garnered widespread recognition and appreciation globally.
The 'Millennial X Award 2023' was conferred upon her in acknowledgment of her contributions to tackling climate change.
In a media interview following the award ceremony, Licypriya expressed her concern about the ongoing violence in Manipur, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring both communities together for lasting peace.
She emphasised the impact of political fuelling on the violence and called for international intervention to address alleged genocide by Kukis against the minority Meeteis in Manipur.
Licypriya has been a prominent voice in the global climate change movement since the age of 6, advocating for climate action.
Her demand for rich nations to bear the costs of climate crisis damage to the global south and the phasing out of fossil fuels finally found success at COP28.World leaders and 196 member states of the United Nations agreed to end the era of fossil fuels by 2050, replacing them with renewable, hydrogen, and nuclear energy.
Having recently visited her birthplace, Manipur, Licypriya received a warm welcome from a large number of people.
She plans to visit Churachandpur next month, continuing her efforts to raise awareness and drive positive change.
