Speaking to the media by the sideline, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that the fate of Parliamentary democracy has become uncertain under the BJP Governments at the Centre and the State.
Claiming that the State Government under Biren Singh has been scheming to murder democracy by suppressing the voice of critics, Ibobi continued that local body elections of ADCs, Municipal Councils and Gram Panchayats have also been put on hold by the BJP.
He then appealed to all concerned to lend a hand in defeating BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to save democracy.
On the security breach at Parliament, Ibobi said that the Speaker disqualifying 146 MPs for demanding statements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is a tell-tale sign of assault on democracy.
He also said that the accused who intruded Parliament had a link with a BJP MP.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra accused the BJP Government of mocking democracy and Indian Constitution.
CPI National executive member Dr M Nara, on the other hand, claimed that BJP is a communal party and they should not be allowed to form the Government again.
He also said that the BJP Government hasn't done anything worthwhile to end the violent conflict in Manipur which began more than seven months back.
Manipur has become a lawless State under BJP Government, he claimed and added that the saffron party must be defeated in the 2024 Lok Sabha election to save democracy.
He also said that fighting BJP without unity among the Opposition parties will be difficult.
JD (U) National executive member Dr Nimaichand Luwang asked why the Centre is not giving any attention to the violence in Manipur which is entering the eighth month.
He also said that there won't be peace in Manipur as long as BJP is at the helm of power.
BJP had shown its true colour by suspending 143 MPs from the Parliament for demanding a statement from Amit Shah on the security breach, the veteran politician added.
Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam said that the fate of India as a democratic Nation is at risk under the BJP Government.
Claiming that the BJP wants to suppress the voice of the people and run the country as per their fancy and whims, Gaikhangam called for unity among the Opposition secular parties to defeat BJP in the 2024 elections.
