Camp residents to launch hunger strike

Meetei people displaced from various villages of Churachandpur district who are taking shelter in relief centres have threatened to launch hunger strike from December 26 if the government fails to fulfil the 7-charter of demands submitted to the authority concerned, the resolutions of which were adopted during the December 17 meeting of the relief camp inmates.
Briefing media persons in this regard after meeting with the Bishnupur DC on Friday, Churachandpur Meetei Ethnic Clash Victims Committee secretary Naba Ningthoujam said that the committee submitted a memorandum to the DC containing the seven charter of demands including that the government ensure that all the ethnic clash victims are provided essential commodities in consultation with the committee and re-issuing documents which were lost in the ethnic violence to the victims by the government.
If the government fails to fulfil all the demands by December 25, the displaced Meetei people will launch hunger strike from December 26, he warned.
