Imphal Airport discusses C-19 JN 1 variant

Imphal, December 22 2023:
In response to the rising cases of COVID-19 and emergence of the JN.1 variant, a meeting was convened at the Imphal Airport on Friday.
Chaired by airport director Chipemi Keishing, the meeting was attended by stakeholders concerned to discuss the current status of the pandemic and demise strategies for effective management.
State epidemiologist from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) Dr Bharati Meitram sharing update on the COVID-19 situation, shed light on the significance of JN.1 variant and its implications to the ongoing efforts to control the spread of the virus.
IDSP microbiologist H Shyamkishor Sharma underscored importance of widespread testing and implementation of precautionary measures to curb the transmission of the virus.
The need for vigilance was emphasised by all speakers in view of the evolving nature of the pandemic and the potential challenges posed by the new variant.
Senior medical officer in-charge of Airport Dispensary Dr Rameshor stressed the importance of continued adherence to hand hygiene and masking as essential measures in preventing the spread of the disease.
Airport director Chipemi Keishing, in his concluding remarks, highlighted the collective responsibility of all frontline workers exposed to a high volume of passengers daily.
He emphasised the need for heightened vigilance and the strict implementation of precautionary measures for safety of both passengers and airport personnel.
The meeting saw the participation of officials from various agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), State Police, Airports Authority of India (AAI), health department officials and representatives from different airlines operating at Imphal International Airport.
