Imphal, December 22 2023:
Khangabok Assembly Constituency MLA Okram Surjakumar has clarified that he was unable to attend yesterday's Ethics Committee meeting as he is currently in Delhi getting medical treatment for his sick child.
Issuing a clarification through the media, the MLA who is also a member of the Committee on Privileges and Ethics, expressed grief over his absence at the meeting and urged the Committee to inform the members in advance about any future meetings.
The Khangabok MLA asserted that he had not missed any important discussion on State issues in the past and that he was absent at the Ethics Committee meeting only because the timing coincided with his child's treatment for which he had to be in Delhi.
Additionally, he appealed to the Assembly Speaker and the Chairman of Ethics Committee to resolve the issue regarding the 10 Kuki MLAs once and for all and assured to support any step taken up in this connection.
It may be noted that the Manipur Legislative Assembly's Committee on Privileges and Ethics had convened a meeting yesterday to deliberate over the complaint filed by former Minister O Joy Singh against the alleged unethical conduct of the ten Kuki MLAs.
