Imphal, December 22 2023: Locals of Takhel seized two truck loads of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and beer worth around Rs 20 lakh from a brick farm located at Takhel Tera Karong under Lamlai police station, Imphal East today.

The brick farm belongs to one Bobby.

The seized items were later destroyed at Takhel Sabal playground.

It is reported that a consignment of IMFL and beer transported in a Mahindra Bolero and Tata Magic from Takhel to Moirangkampu Sajeb Makha Lekai were also seized by meira paibi of Moirangkampu Sajeb Makha Lekai last night and destroyed.

Suspecting that the liquor might belong to Bobby, locals of Takhel stormed the brick farm at Takhel Tera Karong today and found two truck loads of IMFL and beer.

According to the secretary of local meira paibi lup, the drivers of the Mahindra Bolero and Tata Magic which were caught red handed while transporting liquor last night impersonated as volunteers of Arambai.

She said that they allowed the two vehicles to proceed from Takhel at around 10 pm after its occupants and drivers introduced themselves as volunteers of Arambai.

Claiming that the drivers and occupants of the two vehicles changed their narrative and lied to the meira paibi at Moirang Kampu that they were only carrying vegetables, she added that a large consignment of IMFL and beer were found concealed inside the two vehicles on verification.

She said that they rushed to the brick farm today morning suspecting that Bobby might have a hand in last night's incident.

Saying that two tipper trucks were found stuffed with IMFL and beer inside the brick farm, she added that the two trucks tried to flee but were caught from the nearby place.

After the seizure, the IMFL and beer were destroyed at Takhel Sabal playground, she added.

She appealed to all concerned to not use the name of any organisation to carry out anti-social work.

Meanwhile, the drivers who were rounded up by meira paibis while transporting liquor have tendered an apology for impersonating as Arambai volunteers.

It is reported that another consignment of IMFL and beer was seized from a particular house at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai on tracing the history of the drivers who impersonated as Arambai volunteers.
